Headquartered in New York City, Simmons-Boardman Publishing has a global reach, maintaining editorial, sales, circulation and educational offices and facilities in the U.S. and United Kingdom, with representatives throughout Europe and Asia. The company’s main offices are in New York, N.Y., Chicago, Ill., Omaha, Neb., Orlando, Fla., Haywards Heath and Falmouth, England.

Simmons-Boardman’s current structure did not begin to take shape until 1908. That year marked the merger of two very influential and prestigious railroad journals: The Railroad Gazette (founded 1856) and The Railway Age (1876). Two officers of The Gazette financed the consolidation and gave the new company its name: E. A. Simmons, The Gazette’s vice president-advertising, and William H. Boardman, its editor.

Today, Simmons-Boardman remains the world’s largest publisher of rail industry information under the guiding hand of the McGinnis family. The late Arthur McGinnis Sr. gained a controlling interest in Simmons-Boardman in the early 1960’s. Arthur J. McGinnis Jr. is now chairman and president of Simmons–Boardman Publishing. Other senior officers of the company include Ms. Pat McGinnis, a co-owner and director; Ms. Kim McGinnis, director; Jonathan Chalon, Group Publisher; and Allen Morrell, controller.
